The Computerized Sewing Machine
Are there other alternatives to a computerized sewing machine?
Everyday people want to buy a new sewing machine, perhaps they want to start sewing or they simply need a new one. There are different options available but you are not exactly which one you should choose. Let us have a look at the types of machines there are available so you can make an informed decision.
Electric Sewing Machines
Most people who sew have this model, or started with this one. It works with electricity which drives an electrical motor. The dog feeder, bobbin and needle are driven by the motor. With this machine you have a foot pedal, one can compare it to the gas pedal in a car the more you push down the faster the car goes and in this regard the sewing machine.
For years women have been using this type of machine and it really works well. This model has the basic stitches, but you would have to look at the features of every individual machine to see if it would be the best for you. This is a very good investment, and the manufacturers constantly improve their models.
Computerized Sewing Machines
These types of machines work the same as an eclectic machine, but they offer much more. These sewing machines offer an array of awesome features. They are operated using a touchpad and LCD screen, and you can download programs from your PC. What is great is that the machines are pre programmed, which makes it so much easier to use.
These machines are easy to use and very user friendly. There are quite a few models on the market you can choose from, so again you will have to select one that will fit your budget and your needs. Decide what the machine needs to do, then have a look which one meets all your requirement and then get one that fits your budget.
The Overlocker Machines
This machine is certainly not a necessity but a great one to have. An overlocker is used to give a professional finish to your sewing project, it prevents material from fraying. You can do that on the electric and computerized models as well, however there the zigzag function will have to be used.
Other than the overlocker function this machine is limited and cannot replace a sewing machine. Most sewers have a normal sewing machine and later on they get the overlocker, but not the other way round. If you are a beginner then this machine will not be a necessity, later if you have become better at sewing you can additionally purchase this machine. If you do sewing on a professional level for work then this would be a great investment.
The Manual Machines
Just because they are operated by turning a handle doesn’t mean that they don’t work well. This machine does not work with electricity. What you have to do is turn a handle which powers the machine. It may take some hard work, but they do a great job. The older generation will remember these machines with great adoration. The new models which are available these days are easier to use, so these machines are no longer in demand.
Choosing a new sewing machine is very exciting and the options are endless. Currently most buyers go for a computerized sewing machine, because it has everything you could possibly want and technology makes sewing a breeze.
