Top Reasons Why A Regular Dental Check Up Is Important

How often do you visit your dentist? Once a month? Maybe twice a year? Try even once a year. Most people nowadays seldom visit their dentist, putting less priority for a professional dental check up. In fact, it is highly probable that more are consulting the dermatologist more than the dentist.

What could be the reason why people are holding back on their dental visits? One theory is that a lot of us feared the dental chair when we were still kids and that fear remains with us through adulthood. But this should not be the case as dentists like Dr. Jonathan Hartley strongly recommend that people should visit their dentists more often. Sometimes even once a year is not enough.

We often can blame the way that we live to the condition of our teeth. Most of us love eating sweets and also foods that can be harmful to our health, not just the teeth. If it’s sweet, we definitely want more of that. From ice cream to cakes, from candies to colas, anything that is full of sugar is very much welcome. However, the problem is that too much of anything is bad and too much sugar can cause tooth decay among other dental problems.

For this reason, Dr. Jonathan Hartley and other dentists say that as early as possible we should teach our children the proper way of maintaining the teeth. Start by teaching them to brush at least twice a day or preferably after every meal. Use a fluoride toothpaste as it is the best type to combat tooth decay. We should also get them started to get into the habit of flossing to remove the small pieces of food that often get stuck between the teeth. As we all know, flossing is among the least used dental hygiene procedure among adults.

What can you expect to get from a regular dental check up? While it may not be obvious at first, but one benefit from it is that you actually get to save money in the long run. Just think about it. If you do not regularly visit your dentist and for all you know your teeth or your mouth might be prone to a certain disease. When that disease finally hits and it’s too late to do any preventive, in short cheaper, treatments, the dentist will resort to more expensive procedures. That will certainly hurt your wallet. So stop worrying about the expenses that you will make when you visit your dentist more often and start thinking more of the future.

Are you spending enough on your dental hygiene? To think that most of us would rather spend money on skin whiteners or shampoos than to worry about the overall health of our teeth is appalling.

Dr. Jonathan Hartley, together with other dentists, suggest that you regularly visit your dentist. How often? Just ask your dentist as to the frequency because he is the best person to determine the state of your teeth and with how much treatments or check ups you need.
